Gerald J. Ferencz
M.D. - Investigator

Dr. Gerald Ferencz was awarded his B.A. in Biology/History at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He received his M.D. in 1980 at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and served his internship at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. Dr. Ferencz also served his residency in Internal Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center, acting as Chief Resident his final year. He completed his residency in Neurology at the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1986.

Dr. Ferencz is Board Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Board Certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), Board Certified in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, Board Certified in Vascular Neurology by the ABPN and Board Certified in Neurocritical Care by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS).

Dr. Ferencz has been on the Neurologic Critical Pathways Team at Community Medical Center since 1995 and is the Medical Director of Community Medical Center’s Primary Stroke Center and Center for Sleep Disorders.

Shore Neurology was honored to have Dr. Ferencz listed as a Top Doctor in Toms River in 2016.


Pandurang R. Miskin
M.D. - Investigator

Dr. Pandurang Miskin received his pre-med degree and his M.D. from Karnatak University in India, graduating in 1975.

He served one year as rotating intern in India and two years in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.

Dr. Miskin completed Neurology Residency training at the University of Minnesota affiliated hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There he acquired vast experience in diagnosis and treatment of various neurological disorders. In addition, he gained proficiency in electrodiagnostics (electroencephalography [EEG]; nerve conduction studies [NCS]; needle electromyography [EMG] and Evoked Potentials [EP]).

Dr. Miskin is in private practice since 1986. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. He holds privileges at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey.


Sandra L. Escandon
M.D. - Investigator

Dr. Escandon has been with Shore Neurology for 19 years. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1986 with a B.S. in Biology. She received her M.D. at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1990. Dr. Escandon continued her medical training with an internship at Hahnemann University Hospital. She completed a three year residency in Adult Neurology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. She was awarded a fellowship in Neuromuscular Disease/EMG at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, 1994-1995.

She is board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Escandon continues to have an interest in peripheral neuropathy and neuromuscular disorders but also sees general neurology patients including patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, and Epilepsy.

Through years of clinical experience taking care of a large number of headache patients and with additional study, she obtained Board Certification in Headache Medicine by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties in 2014.

She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Headache Society, and the International Headache Society.


Rocco DiPaola
M.D. - Investigator

Dr. Rocco J. DiPaola received his B.S. with honors in Biology at Cook College – Rutgers in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was awarded his M.D. at UMDNJ – The New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey in May 1991. He served his internship in Internal Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. He completed his residency at Loyola University Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident his final year, 1992-1995. Dr. DiPaola completed a Fellowship in general Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He also completed fellowship training in movement disorders at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Dr. DiPaola specializes in the treatment of Movement Disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, tremor disorders, dystonia, and gait disorders. He is trained in Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s disease and tremor. He is proficient in the use of Botox® for various Neurological conditions.

Dr. DiPaola is Board Certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Medical Association, Movement Disorders Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. DiPaola is a Clinical Professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. DiPaola has been with the Shore Neurology PA practice since 1997.


Darshana P. Amin
D.O. - Investigator

Dr. Darshana P. Amin was awarded a B.S. in Biology-Psychology by Tufts University in 2000. She received her D.O. at the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. She served her residency in Neurology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School from 2005-2008, acting as Chief Resident in her final year. She was awarded membership to the National Medical Honor Society: Alpha Omega Alpha in 2008. She completed her Fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital in Massachusetts in 2009.

Dr. Amin is Board Certified in Neurology and Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). She has published several clinical articles and was a presenter at the 2009 AASM Annual Meeting. Dr. Amin has been with the Shore Neurology PA practice since 2009.


John Sarris
M.D. - Investigator

Dr. John Sarris was awarded a B.A. in Classical Civilization at New York University in 1980. He received his M.D. degree with cum laude honors at Albany Medical College in 1987 and continued his medical training by serving an internship and residency in Neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center Hospital from 1987-1993.

He was a practicing neurosurgeon at Community Medical Center from 1993-2010. He received his board certification as a Diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgery in November 1998. He received his subspecialty certificate in Neurocritical Care from the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties in December 2011. He has been a member of the National Medical Honor Society: Alpha Omega Alpha since 1986. He is also a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Neurocritical Care Society.

Dr. Sarris joined Shore Neurology PA in April 2012 and functions primarily as an in-hospital consultant at Community Medical Center. His interests include neurocritical care, stroke and concussions.


Amor R. Mehta
M.D. - Investigator

Dr. Amor R. Mehta is an adult and pediatric epileptologist as well as an adult neurologist. He is one of the few epilepsy specialists in New Jersey with board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology and in Epilepsy. He is proficient in managing both adult and pediatric epilepsy and seizure disorders and is an expert in video EEG monitoring, epilepsy surgery planning, usage of antiepileptic drugs and the management of status epilepticus.

Dr. Mehta received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University in the Neuroscience of Communications. In 2007, he was awarded his M.D. from New York Medical College. Dr. Mehta completed his internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry - New Jersey Medical School in 2008 and his neurology residency at New York University School of Medicine in 2011. He completed his clinical neurophysiology fellowship at New York University in 2012 and completed an optional year of fellowship training in adult and pediatric epilepsy under the direct mentorship of the world renowned epileptologist, Dr. Orin Devinsky.

Dr. Mehta is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Epilepsy Society and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Mehta serves as the Medical Director of The Adult and Pediatric Epilepsy Center and Video EEG Monitoring at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ, which has become accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a Level 3 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, providing the most advanced epilepsy care locally. He is also affiliated with the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Barnabas Healthcare at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.

Dr. Mehta has been with Shore Neurology PA since August 2013. He accepts all patients of any age with possible seizures or known seizure disorders.


Sanjiv K. Sharma
M.D. – Investigator

Dr. Sharma has been involved in memory research since 2009. In 2013, he started AMRI as the principal investigator. Since then he has worked on over 35 memory related protocols. Dr. Sharma has his board certification in internal medicine as well as geriatric medicine. He is passionate about caring for patients and families who are worried about memory loss.

Dr. Sharma graduated from Mahatma Gandhi Medical Memorial College in Jamshedpur, India and completed his residency in internal medicine at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. In 2000, Dr. Sharma opened his private practice, Geriatric Medical Center, in Toms River, New Jersey.


Lal Ramani
M.D. – Associate Director of Clinical Research

Dr. Ramani has over 40 years of experience working as a Medical Examiner, Hospital Administrator and Alzheimer’s Disease Scientist. He has acquired a vast amount of research experience with Alzheimer's patients at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and at the Cleveland Clinic before joining AMRI. He has experience in many areas of clinical research administration, including organizing and overseeing clinical operations, promoting Good Clinical Practices in the conduct of clinical investigations, and ensuring site adherence to protocol procedures, requirements, and timelines.


Anna Brocco
Pharm.D., MBA - Director of Operations & Clinical Research

Anna is a graduate of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, with her doctorate in pharmacy and also a master's in business. Throughout pharmacy school and after graduation, Anna worked at Community Medical Center as a staff pharmacist specializing in IV medication preparation. Anna has brought her pharmacy skills to the office to assist in preparing and dispensing study medications. She is committed to research and works to bring new studies to our center to provide opportunities for all patients to participate. She is dedicated to the patients and families of AMRI and works hard to ensure that everyone's experience to our center is a pleasant one.


Chamerra Johnson
Operations Manager

Chamerra graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a Health Education Certificate from Rutgers University. She has over 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Chamerra's background in patient access, compliance, administration, and operations management combined with her passion for advancing public health has settled well in clinical research. She is devoted to improving internal operations and developing AMRI to further our mission to provide comprehensive care and resources to a wider range of patients and families.


Maryann Diaz
Executive Business Administrator

Maryann received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Rutgers University and has spent the majority of her professional career working in the non-profit addictions advocacy field. Her dedication to enhancing the lives of the underserved and underrepresented populations makes her an ideal fit for AMRI. She is eager to learn and absorb as much as she can about the important work being done here and brings with her a desire to give each and every person who walks through AMRI’s front door a pleasant experience.


Sandra L. Gomez
APN

Sandra's medical career began at the age of 18 when she joined the US Army and spent over three years at Walter Reed Institute of Research as a research lab technician. She then worked in various positions including phlebotomist, patient care technician and as an educator at Ocean County College.

Sandra began her nursing education at Ocean County College earning her Associate's of Applied Science in Nursing degree in May 2005. She then completed her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree at Kean University, graduating cum laude in January 2009. She was inducted into Lambda Alpha Sigma in May 2009. Sandra continued her studies and earned her Master's of Science degree in Nursing from Kean University in May 2010. That same month, she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International, an honor society of nursing. Sandra continued her education and obtained her certificate in Advanced Practice Nurse in May 2012. She is board certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.

Sandra joined Shore Neurology, P.A. in June 2005.


Victoria Dioguardi
LPN - Clinical Research Coordinator & Neuropsychometric Rater

Vickie graduated from nursing school in 1970 and has worked in all areas of nursing, specializing in the care of the elderly with a keen desire to improve their quality of life. She is a research professional with more than 20 years of experience, specializing in Memory Loss and Alzheimer's Disease. Vickie has also worked with Phase I-III of clinical trials as a coordinator, as well as a rater/psychometrician. Vickie is a proactive team player with strong organizational skills, dedicated to her patients and research projects. She is also a well-established member of New Jersey's Clinical Research community.


Elisabeth Storey
Clinical Research Coordinator

Elisabeth is new to the field of research, but she has learned to manage all aspects of memory care. Her compassionate and friendly attitude has been welcomed by our patients and families. Elisabeth has a background in social work where she worked with at risk youth and adults with disabilities to help prepare them for job placement. Her patience and case management skills have made her a perfect study coordinator for AMRI.


Lauren Bawiec
Clinical Research Coordinator

As a recent graduate from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Lauren’s educational coursework and various internship and volunteer experiences have helped her succeed in the Clinical Research Coordinator role. Passionate about Public Health, she is committed to improving the lives of many by providing individualized treatment and care to patients and families.


Julia Carey
Clinical Research Coordinator

Julia is new to the field of clinical research, but is able to apply previous work experience to allow her to succeed in the role of a clinical research coordinator. Prior to her joining the team at AMRINJ, Julia was a licensed pharmacy technician for over six years. With an in-depth understanding of the importance of patient care and compliance policies, Julia is dedicated to delivering personalized treatment and care to each and every patient.


Rachele Dickinson
Clinical Research Coordinator

Rachele is a recent graduate of Stockton University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with a minor in Behavioral Neuroscience. She is new to the field of research, but with a wide range of educational coursework and previous volunteer experience she is able to transition into the role of Clinical Research Coordinator seamlessly. Rachele is committed to providing patients and their families with the best care possible in order to enhance their experience at AMRINJ and improve their quality of life.


Samantha Gutt
Clinical Research Associate

Samantha will graduate from Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in May 2019 with her doctorate in pharmacy. Her previous experiences include working in ambulatory care and medication safety. Due to her comprehensive clinical knowledge regarding medications and disease state management, she is dedicated to providing safe and high-quality patient care.


Caitlyn Wojcik
Clinical Research Educator

Caitlyn graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health and a minor in Business from Montclair State University. Prior to AMRINJ, Caitlyn has had experience working with a home healthcare facility, an outpatient addiction treatment center, and a health department. Caitlyn has always had a passion for research and expanding her knowledge about current diseases, conditions, and their treatment that need further investigation. With her kind heart and motivation to improve public health, Caitlyn is committed to help patients and their loved ones get the care they deserve.


Amie Green
Regulatory Specialist

Amie has over 20 years of experience in the clinical research field. She began working as the lab technician for a research office and then moved into her specialty of regulatory. Amie worked as an in-house CRA at a clinical research organization. She then returned to the site level as a study coordinator and regulatory specialist. Amie's exceptional organizational skills ensure that our site is compliant in all regulatory areas and that the quality of our work is the best in the business.


Jacqueline Massa
Ph.D. – Neuropsychometric Rater

Jacqueline Massa, Ph.D. has over 16 years of experience assessing and diagnosing cognitive and emotional disorders. She also has experience as both a principal and sub-investigator on original grant funded and clinical trials research. She earned her doctorate in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York and completed two fellowships in neuropsychological assessment and functional brain mapping/neuromodulation. She has numerous national and international publications and has presented at conferences in both North America and Europe. In 2009, she received the Emerging Researcher Award from the New Jersey Psychological Association. At AMRI, she is involved in neurocognitive ratings, memory evaluations, and assisting study coordination.


Raji Varghese
BDS, CCRC – Neuropsychometric Rater

Raji graduated from dental school in 1996. He has over 16 years of clinical experience and 6 years of research experience. Raji holds three International Publications in Neurology. At AMRI, he is involved in neurocognitive ratings, assisting in study coordination, lab support and quality assurance. Raji's commitment to the highest standards of clinical research provides strong support and guidance to the participating patients and their families.


Ed Austin
MS, BSN, CCRC - Neuropsychometric Rater

Ed Austin has 8 years of experience in clinical research, including trial conduct, safety monitoring, recruitment, data management, and project management. He is skilled in all study-related clinical procedures, trail project evaluation, initiation, routine and termination for Phases I-IV trials. Ed's healthcare and clinical background combined with his medical research experience serves as a solid base to provide the best quality services to participants as well as to adhere to the industry's highest standards. He is involved in AMRI's neurocognitive ratings, case reporting, tracking, lab support, data clarification, and quality assurance for Phase III and IV trials.


Theresa Kessler
Lab Technician

Theresa has been working with Dr. Sharma since the establishment of AMRI. She makes sure that all information and options are thoroughly explained to you before any care begins.
